SAMI KONTIO

The Finnish champion aerobatic pilot and airshow artist Sami Kontio got his pilot´s wings in 2002, planted his feet firmly in the air and hasn´t looked back since. In fact, only 10 flight hours later he was already competing in the Finnish National Aerobatic Championships winning the silver medal in the Sportsman class - a remarkable feat! Sami knew early on what he wanted from the sport and has strived after more perfection and excellence in all his subsequent performances, pushing the limits by moving up the tech ladder from the Christen Eagle, his first aerobatic aircraft to his present aircraft, the CAP 232, ever thirsty for more action and precision in the sky.

Seven years later, last summer at the World Aerobatic Championships in Silverstone, England, the talented Finn made Finnish aerobatic history in a tough competition against all the world greats lasting for 10 days, by placing eighth in the 4-minute free style program right after the previous World Champions who were taking part in the competition, which is an excellent result firmly establishing him as one of the top aerobatic aces anywhere.

The CAP 232, Sami´s present high performance aircraft choice is a refined aerobatic thoroughbred which gives him practically unlimited possibilities to use his skills and imagination in combining figures into thrilling sequences with as few technical limitations as possible. Actually not even the sky is the limit but the physical boundaries of man. He dances in the air, in three dimensions, in a way totally impossible to imitate on the ground.
